Elevation
(1 year internship)

This internship is designed to be more structured with classes, trainings, and a more fixed schedule for the first section. As interns familiarize themselves with the various components of our ministry and take into consideration their passions and interests, they will choose a specific area to serve in during the final section of the internship.

To reach these goals, we walk alongside our Elevation interns as they experience spiritual growth, servant leadership, cultural immersion, serving in a ministry, classes, and mentoring. As with all of our internship programs, participants will experience our adventure ministry first hand, be trained to facilitate retreat groups, participate in off-site excursions, and grow through experiential education.

As an intern you will live on property and have access to all of the spaces that El Refugio offers. Interns benefit from the exclusive use of the Discipleship House’s common room, offering a comfortable space to read, relax, and play games with other interns.

Interns will balance preparing meals for themselves in the discipleship house kitchen and enjoying meals prepared by our kitchen staff. Whenever there are short-term teams on property, interns eat in the dining hall with these groups. Outside of summer months, when mission teams aren’t on site, interns will typically prepare and/or share meals with our Latin American interns that run on a similar timeline.

All interns will live in our Discipleship House on the El Refugio property. The house has 2 dorms, one for males and one for females with a shared common room, full kitchen, and laundry room. The house is fully furnished and has a capacity for 20 students. During different seasons of the year Latin American interns will also live in this space, allowing our Elevation interns to engage in a rich cross-cultural community.

Our hope is that after the time spent at El Refugio serving, learning, resting, reflecting, and enjoying the awe-inspiring beauty of God’s creation, interns not only go home refreshed, but also will leave with a greater sense of who Jesus is and a deeper love for Him. Being that the Elevation internship is for Christ followers desiring to grow in their leadership abilities and experience, we aim to help them apply their passion for outdoor ministry and missions as they continue to serve the Lord internationally or in their own hometown.

To ensure the best experience, we ask that Elevation interns begin their time with our Basecamp program in May and then continue their time when Basecamp ends in August. If you have a concern about these dates, please contact us.
